Sonder and Kings Island team up for Blue Ice Cream Ale

MASON, Ohio (WKRC) - The most popular treat at Kings Island has inspired Sonder's newest beer.

Sonder says Kings Island Blue Ice Cream Ale uses the same flavors from the famous ice cream, including blueberry and vanilla. The color was another story.

“The color was an exciting challenge as we knew we didn't want to add any artificial ingredients or coloring to achieve a blue hue. We did a lot of research and testing to find a natural product to get the color. Both balancing the ice cream flavor without being overly sweet and achieving the fun blue color were definitely the main challenges.”

Honey malt was used to help sweeten the beer.

The Blue Ice Cream Ale was originally planned for last year but COVID-19 complications pushed it back to this year. It will debut May 15 when Kings Island opens to the public for the season.

It can be bought at the Sonder taproom and at eight locations within Kings Island.
